Cooking and baking are some of life's greatest pleasures for some. Many people love the feeling of cooking a satisfying and delicious dinner for their families and friends, and for those that enjoy an electric range and a double oven, it can be even more of a pleasure. Cleaning such an oven and electric range, however, can be the biggest hassle by far. Luckily, it's not as complicated as it can seem.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Oven or Appliance Cleaner
  • Face Mask
  • Sponge or Scrub Brush
  • Wash Rags
  • Small Tub
  • Bath Tub
  • Water
  1. Step 1

Read the entire label on the can or bottle of oven/appliance cleaner to see if toxic or noxious fumes will be given off.

  2. Step 2

Ventilate the room or house in which your oven sits. Sometimes even the "no fume" cleaners can be harmful and allowing air flow will lessen the strength of them.

  3. Step 3

Remove the burners, drip pans and over racks from the range and the ovens. Place the drip pans and racks in the bath tub, and lay the burners to the side until you're finished.

  4. Step 4

Put your face mask on and secure it to lessen the amount of fumes breathed in. Hold the can of cleaner 6 inches from the drip pans and racks and spray the material until they are thoroughly covered. Leave the racks and drip pans for now.

  5. Step 5

Spray the top of the stove range and the inside of the ovens in the same manner as the racks, making sure to coat them thoroughly.

  6. Step 6

Re-read the directions on the cleaner to determine how long it needs to sit on the appliance. If waiting is required, wait the required length of time and proceed to the next step. If not, you will need to immediately proceed to the next step.

  7. Step 7

Scrub and rub away the cooked- and baked-on residue in the ovens and on the range, using a sponge or scrub brush. Rinse and wipe away the residue and cleaner using wash rags and water in a small tub. Rinse until all is washed away. Return to the bath tub where the drip pans and oven racks lay.

  8. Step 8

Scrub away the baked-on material with a sponge or brush until all the residue has broken off. Rinse the drip pans and racks with either water from the small tub or from the faucet in the bath tub and wash rags.

  9. Step 9

Allow everything to air dry. This also gives the fumes more time to dissipate.

  10. Step 10

Replace the drip pans in the range and fit the burners into them. Place the oven racks in the ovens, but leave the oven doors open so that fumes don't get trapped inside.

Tips & Warnings
  • Some oven and appliance cleaners can be harsh on your hands. Try wearing gloves while handling during the scrubbing steps. For tough residue, try spraying another shot of cleaner or using a baking soda and water paste to get them to let loose. Keep the house/room ventilated for a few hours after cleaning to avoid any fumes left over and the headaches they can cause.
  • Always read the entire label on cleaners for directions and warnings, and follow the directions exactly. Keep the children and pets away from cleaners and their fumes.
