Baby slings have long become a mother's best friend. Adjusted correcting, a sling can be comfortably worn with child inside, and without hurting your back.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Baby Sling
  1. Step 1

A baby sling must fit comfortably, like a well loved, well worn piece of clothing.

The best way to adjust your sling is to start out by standing in front of a full length mirror.

  2. Step 2
    Baby Sling Ring

Most baby slings either adjust using rings or tie on.

Start by putting on your sling by placing one arm and your head through the sling. It should rest on your shoulder and against your hip, crossing your chest in a vertical manner.

Zolowear advises, for baby slings with rings, "Rings should end up in corsage position in the hollow under your shoulder. Start with rings high on your shoulder before you put baby in, as putting baby in often shifts the rings down."

  3. Step 3

For newborns, bring baby up to the opposite shoulder of where your sling is resting, as if to burp them. (Ex. sling on right shoulder, put baby on left.) Holding the baby by the arm of your sling shoulder, use the opposite arm to unfold the sling and lower the baby inside. Slowly withdraw your arm and allow the sling to take the baby's weight.

  4. Step 4

A baby sling can be used as an extra arm when carrying older babies such as toddlers and preschoolers. Pick your child up, put their feet into the sling and through, then sit child on your hip as usual. The baby sling should support your child's bottom and back, and fit comfortably.

Tips & Warnings
  • Adjust your sling to desired position before attempting to place baby inside.
  • The best baby sling is one that fits your lifestyle and your budget.
  • If fitted properly a baby sling should not cause you back pain.

on 7/11/2009 Watch the video in tutorial on the kind of baby sling you have. There are several types and you could really see how to use it right if the manufacturer didn't include a dvd tutorial with your purchase.
