If you have never been whitewater rafting in the cold waters of Colorado you might be asking yourself what should I wear. Keeping warm in the cold Colorado waters will allow you to enjoy your whitewater rafting trip.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • synthetic fiber clothing
  • water shoes or booties
  • sunscreen and SPF 15 lip balm
  • Dry change of clothes
  • Sunglasses
  1. Step 1

Pack clothes and a towel to change into after the whitewater rafting trip is over. You can leave the clothes in your vehicle or if the rafting company provides lockers you can put your clothes in there. Rafting companies usually have a dressing room for their customers to change.

  2. Step 2

Take clothes that will keep you warm is the key; even in the summer in Colorado. Choose clothing that is made of synthetic fibers because it dries faster. Cotton clothing is a big no-no when whitewater rafting because it takes longer to dry. Women can wear a bathing suit top with shorts made of synthetic material. Men can wear a synthetic tank top and shorts or swimming trunks.

  3. Step 3

Wear water shoes. Avoid tennis shoes with cotton socks. Your feet will just be cold.

  4. Step 4

Use the water clothing provided by the rafting company. Some companies offer wet suits, nylon splash jackets, and water booties for a small rental fee; while others offer it in the price of their packages.

  5. Step 5

Apply sunscreen before you get onto the raft. You will be out in the sun for several hours.

  6. Step 6

Wear sunglasses that are secured by a croakie or eyewear retainer to prevent loss of your sunglasses during the rapids.

  7. Step 7

After the trip, change into the dry clothing you left in your car or rafting company locker (if available.)

Tips & Warnings
  • Synthetic fiber clothing will keep you warmer. Check clothing label.
  • Cotton clothing will keep you wet and cold.
  • Wetsuits keep you warm.
  • Splash jackets keep water from coming in your torso area.
