Access the Google Wonder Wheel
Access the Google Wonder Wheel

Some people may not be familiar with Google’s relatively new search feature called the “Wonder Wheel”. For people who are keyword research addicts, the Google Wonder Wheel is a Godsend. Basically, the Google Wonder Wheel is one of the many search options you can use to get a visual representation of keywords that are related to the main keyword you’re searching for. It’s similar in appearance to “mind maps”, as they are called, and it gives you not only the primary keyword that you initially searched for, but also other keywords that are related and can “branch off” of the main keyword. These other keyword subsets that surround the primary keyword are a great source of ideas, and the more you research each subset, the more you realize that there really is limitless potential for new ideas to surface based on your research. This article will provide the basic steps to enable you to access the Google Wonder Wheel.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A computer with internet access
  • A word or phrase that you want to search for
  1. Step 1

You’ll need to log on to Google at google.com. This is pretty obvious, but I’m just trying to be thorough.

  2. Step 2

Access to the Wonder Wheel cannot be found on Google’s home page. You will have to actually search for a term first before you can get access to the Wonder Wheel. So, with this in mind, type any keyword you want to research into the search box, then click the “Google Search” button, or just hit “Enter”.

  3. Step 3

Once Google returns your search results, you will see their logo in the upper left corner of the screen. Right underneath their logo, you will see two words: “Web” and “Show options”. Click on the “Show options” link.

  4. Step 4

You should now see your search results again, but this time with a column on the left hand side that has a heading that says “All results”. Scan down to the bottom of that column, and under the bold heading that says “Standard view”, click the link that says “Wonder wheel”.

  5. Step 5

You will then see a graphical representation of your keyword, with the word(s) inside of a circle, and then the related keywords branching out from that circle. This is your Google Wonder Wheel. Again, this type of structure is very similar to the “mind mapping” concept, and does a great job of visually representing the relationship between certain keyword sets.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you want to take your keyword research even further, click on one of the related keywords, and it will most of the time extend the Wonder Wheel into a more complex structure. It’s really cool.
  • Can't really think of one.
