How to Make a Flower Pot from a Bird Bath
Birdbaths do not last forever, particularly if they freeze with water in them. Once the bird bath has cracked, it can be put to another use. Never one to waste, and pushing recycle to the limits, we have converted the old bird bath to hold flowers.

If you have a birdbath that no longer holds water, MOVE it to a location where it can hold flowers or plants. Consider the type of flowers or plants you want to put in it before determining where to move it. The birdbath we show here is concrete and in two pieces. It is very heavy so we could not "try it out" in different locations.

2
FILL the water pan with planting mix suitable for the flowers or plants you want to use. If you want to plant cacti or succulents, use a sand mixture. Most other plants can use a potting mix.

3
ADD plants of your choice, suitable to the location where you have moved the birdbath. If it is in the shade, be sure to plant shade plants; if it is in the sun, make sure the plants are sun tolerant.

WATER the flowers or plants. If the planting mix seems to wash away, ADD some sand to hold the soil in place until the plants take root.

Tips & Warnings
Plant flowers or plants that have small roots so they can thrive in a shallow dish garden.
If the birdbath is in the sun, you might plant cacti or succulents.
This was our way of recycling, but we have had so many compliments, we wanted to share.
