Applying for a government debit card is simple, follow these steps and you will have a Government debit card in no time.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Government debit cards are cards that are pre loaded with cash, these cards can be used if you are receiving Social Security Disability or SSI or retirement Social Security. These cards are given out by the federal government to reduce paper cost and are easy to use and design to be more convenient.

  2. Step 2

Pre loaded debit cards are all over and can be linked to any payroll check or other Government check. They work just like a credit card and have a Master Card logo on them. If you are receiving a check from the federal government and are currently receiving checks by mail or the funds are linked to your checking account this may be the card for you.

  3. Step 3

Go to www.socialsecurity.gov and look for the debit card link or call 1-800-772-1213 and speak to a Social Security representative. This is a new way the government is trying to encourage beneficiaries to receive their benefits, it is less hassle and because of theft and other problems associated with government checks this is an easier option. Netspend is one of the cards used, to check them out go to www.netspend.com and see what a pre loaded card is all about.
