A clogged toilet can be a big problem, but it is fairly easy to solve if you know how.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Plunger
  1. Step 1

Flush the toilet - do this to make sure it is plugged, and it is much easier to plunge if the bowl is nearly full.

  2. Step 2

Let water drain out enough that none will splash out.

  3. Step 3

Insert the plunger and press down to remove the air from within the cup.

  4. Step 4

Place the cup over the drain in the toilet bowl, so that it is sucking from the drain, and rapidly push it up and down. You should feel the resistance as you unclog your pipes.

  5. Step 5

You'll know it's come unclogged when the water starts to drain rapidly. Flush it again to remove all of the old water and clean off the plunger.

  6. Step 6

If this does not seem to work, be sure you are completely covering the hole and that you are pushing and pulling hard and fast enough. If it still remains clogged, you may need to call a professional or buy a special declogger from a hardware store.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you flush the toilet and it doesn't drain at all, you can still plunge it as long as you are careful to not splash too much.
  • Be careful not to slosh toilet water on the floor!
