Increase Your Vehicle's Gas Mileage

In this day and age, it seems as though gas prices rule the world, and, in a way, they do! Gas prices can be a crutch if you let them. Though we can't change the price of gas ourselves, there are easy ways to increase your gas mileage, and save you money.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1
To get the best gas mileage, keep your air filter clean.

    Check your vehicle's air filter.
Checking your air filter is a crucial step in maintaining your vehicle's best gas mileage. A dirty air filter clogs air intake, and robs your vehicle of horsepower and gas mileage. If you aren't sure how to check your air filter, ask the mechanic to do it during your next oil change,(some do this already).

  2. Step 2
Keeping your car maintained and serviced is a great way to keep up your gas mileage.

    Maintenance.
Keep your car maintained to the best of your abilities. This includes getting regular oil changes every 3,000 miles, and a tune up once every year or so. Keeping your car's engine in the best working order will maintain great gas mileage and performance.

  3. Step 3
Keep your speed in the 55-65mph range for best gas mileage.

    Watch your driviing habits.
How you drive definitely has an effect on how much you pay at the pump. Don't floor your car from a complete stop. This increased workload on the engine requires much more fuel than a gentle acceleration.

Don't drive above 70mph. Most modern vehicles are engineered to perform best and get the highest gas mileage in the 55-65mph range. Going over this will reduce your gas mileage significantly.

Tips & Warnings
  • Keep up maintenance on your vehicle
