Write a Career Objective on a Resume

The Career objective on a Resume' should be a brief summary of what's to be found in your resume. It also states what career or you job position you are seeking.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Resume'
  • Dictionary
  • Thesaurus
  1. Step 1

The Career objective should be written last, after you've completed your resume. Be sure to have updated all your information, including past employers, achievements and references (if applicable).

  2. Step 2

Once you've decided on a format and have updated the resume, create a list of your responsibilities. Use the exact wording as on the resume, because you'll be using some of these key words in your Career Objective.

Such as, I have x number of years experienced at, I'm proactive, produced programs, I was responsible for handling cash, overcoming obstacles and so on.

  3. Step 3

Now that you've listed what you did, and where you've been. It's time to create the career objective.

The objective should be short, and to the point but clearly telling the reader what you are seeking. It should be no more than 3 sentences in length and must summarize your qualifications. However, it's not very important that you use the "exact" words found in the resume body, but be certain they define what is stated in the resume. Use a Thesaurus to help you choose your adjectives when defining your talents.

  4. Step 4

    Example:
I am a sales executive with nearly 20 years of software sales and experience. I'm a proactive self-starter with an excellent track record of taking initiative, ownership of my actions and overcoming obstacles. I want join a progressive firm of leaders that dominate the industry in which it compete. I'm in search of a career that will further utilize my extensive talent in sales, negotiating, marketing, listening and motivating others.
