So you've been asked to be the maid of honor and as if that didn't carry enough responsibility the bride wants you to make a toast at the reception as well. Don't sweat it, take some deep breaths and embrace the honor.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • note cards
  • pen or pencil
  1. Step 1

Give yourself time, don't wait until the night before the big day to prepare your toast. Spend a couple of weeks taking notes and practicing for your moment in the spotlight. Simple and short is best, try not to go over 2 minutes.

  2. Step 2

Begin by thanking the bride and groom (and perhaps, their parents) for allowing you the honor of being a part of their big day.

  3. Step 3

Tell a humorous story, share a special memory, or simply offer a favorite quote or verse that is appropriate to the occasion.

  4. Step 4

Stay calm, relax, just be yourself. Speak slowly and clearly so that you can be heard and understood.

  5. Step 5

In conclusion offer your congratulations and wishes for a prosperous union, don't forget to raise your glass saying "To Rick and Sue".

Tips & Warnings
  • Keep your toast simple, try not to go over 2 minutes.
  • However, not too short, your toast needs to be at least 3 lines.
  • Make a note card, nerves seem to be harsh on ones memory.
  • Tell stories that are appropriate, and that others will find humorous, this is not the time for hurt feelings.
  • Watch the alcohol intake before your speech, your audience is interested in what you have to say, slurred speech is a turn-off.
