Tomatoes are a great addition to any garden and nothing tastes better than a home grown tomato. In fact, many people who don't grow any other type of vegetable will grow tomatoes. Tomatoes even grow well in small spaces such as patios and balconies. So whether you have a small balcony or a large outdoor garden here is how to sow tomato seeds.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Tomato seeds
  • Seed starter pans
  • Soil
  • Water
  • Sunlight
  1. Step 1

Tomato seeds are best started in seed starters until they grow large enough to withstand outdoor temperatures and weather.

  2. Step 2

Take a growing flat or seed stater container and fill with potting mix.

  3. Step 3

Dampen the mix slightly but don't over water.

  4. Step 4

Insert one or two tomato seeds in each section of the growing flat. Completely cover each seed with soil.

  5. Step 5

Water every other day or when top of soil becomes dry.

  6. Step 6

When plants are approximately 2 to 3 inches high, replant outdoors if desired. Otherwise transfer to larger containers to sit on patios or balcony. Note that plants should not be planted outdoors until two to three weeks after the last frost.
