There is one plant that will defiantly need to be staked.
The tomato plant needs the support and it will help keep the tomatoes off the dirt. ofcourse there is the topsy-turvy method of growing tomatoes upside down but if you prefer the old style of growing your vegetables and fruits from the ground up then staking them are a must.

  2. Step 2

Choose a stick of wood that is small but big enough to provide support for a large plant.
Tomatoes need a head start before they need to be staked.
Once the have reached about 8 inches in height you can start staking them.
You will also need something to tie them with. do not use nylon (this would cause damage to your plant)use something soft like pantyhose or a ripped up sheet will work or a old cotton t-shirt shredded into strips.

  3. Step 3

Place the stake in the ground next to the plant becareful not to damage the root system.
Take the strips of material and wrap around the plant and the stake and tie loosely. repeat for the next plant till your garden is all staked.
