Many newer cars are coming standard with brighter, better looking LED lights installed over the license plate. This article will walk you through how to replace your standard license plate lights with the newer LED lights on your 2002-2006 Nissan Altima in about 15 minutes time.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • New LED light bulbs
  • Phillips Screwdriver
  1. Step 1

Find and purchase the type of LED bulbs that you would like to install and that will fit your Altima. A great place to find the bulbs is EBay. If you simply search EBay or even Google for "Altima LED license plate bulbs" you'll find plenty to choose from. You'll need to decide if you want bright white LEDs or if you want them to be a certain color, but be warned that depending on where you live, it probably is not legal to add colored LEDs over your license plate.

  2. Step 2

Open your trunk and remove the carpeted trunk lid liner by loosening the plastic clips with a phillips screwdriver and popping each one out. Be careful when doing this to not force the clips out or you might break them and be careful to keep the clips together so that you don't lose any.

  3. Step 3

Once the liner has been removed you should be able to reach each of the two plastic bulb sockets through the opening in the trunk lid. Just twist each plastic socket counter-clockwise until it comes loose and at this point you should be able to remove the bulb and replace it with your new one.

  4. Step 4

Before putting everything back together, turn on your lights and check to make sure that the new ones are working. If so, go ahead and twist your new bulbs back into their proper place and replace the trunk lid liner by popping each one of the plastic clips back in and tightening them with your phillips screwdriver.

Tips & Warnings
  • If your new bulbs don't seem to work at first, play around with them by flipping them around and reinstalling or spreading out the metal contacts on the bulb a little before reinstalling them.
  • White LED replacements should be legal everywhere since many new cars are coming standard with them, but check with your state department of motor vehicles before installing any color LEDs just to be safe.
