Being a freelance writer is becoming more and more popular today, yet how can you accomplish this job effectively and make money at the same time? With a bit of effort and quite a bit of invested time, you can make a nice side income. Some will even be able to make a full time writer's income off of their freelance writing.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet connection
  • computer
  • natural writing ability
  • Time
  1. Step 1

Find places to write. There are two main streams of income for a freelance writer: upfront pay and residual income. Popular websites that produce a stream of income for freelance writers on the web include ehow, suite101, examiner, heluim and others. These places offer a mix of upfront payment and residual payment, depending on the site.

  2. Step 2

Do your research. Finding a place to accept your writing and submitting articles is easy and yet a waste of time if you do not do your research when working on an article. Using google adwords to find popular search terms will help you effectively incorporate keywords into your articles, helping your writing be found by those who are looking for information.

  3. Step 3

Write in second or third person whenever possible. Writing in first person makes an article sound very much like a blog, and when a reader is looking for trust-worthy information on a topic, second or third person is much more likely to garner trust.

Tips & Warnings
  • When starting out writing for residual income, give it several months before deciding if it is worth your time as residuals build up over time.
  • Do not forget to spell check!
