Many people dread hanging mirrors because they are never sure if they are picking the right location. The key is to make sure that you have selected the right spot prior to installing hardware. This will ensure that the walls will only receive the holes needed for the hardware and not several extra because of misplacement of the mirror. This article provides you with a simple guideline to follow for hanging mirrors in your home or office.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Wrapping paper
  • Pen or maker
  • Scissors
  • Low-tack tape
  • Screw anchors
  • Threaded screws
  • Electric screwdriver or drill
  • Bubble level

How to Hang Up a Mirror

  1. Step 1

Lay the wrapping paper on a flat surface allowing the white or plain colored side to face up. This will allow you to see the markings you will make on the paper.

  2. Step 2

Trace the mirror onto the wrapping paper using a pen or marker. Mark where the mirror hangers are on the wrapping paper. Remove the mirror and place in a safe place so it does not break.

  3. Step 3

Cut out the tracing of the mirror. Begin to experiment with mirror placement by moving the tracing of the mirror around the wall. Use low tack tape to stick the tracing on the wall once you believe you found a location. This will allow you to step back to view the placement without the fear of damaging paint or wallpaper.

  4. Step 4

Install the screw anchors and then the screws through the markings you made on the wrapping paper. You can do this either by hand or with the help of an electric screwdriver or drill. Once the hardware is installed, remove the tracing of the mirror.

  5. Step 5

Use a bubble level to ensure that the mirror is level. If you do not have a bubble level, judge how level it is by stepping back and looking at the mirror.

Tips & Warnings
  • Double check that the hardware is securely installed before hanging the mirror.
  • Use wall anchors for all mirrors to prevent injury.
