How to Get Around Spam Filters

The Internet allows for near instant communications, and the most common form of delivery is through email. As this feature has evolved, more and more users have begun using spam filters as an added level of protection to prevent unwanted mail. This has resulted in many legitimate emails becoming lost in the never-ending torrent of unsolicited commercial email. This can be avoided with a few techniques that make excellent business sense.

Instructions

  1. Composing a Sure-Fire Email

    • 1

Compose your header line with clear and concise information on your topic. Spammers use very generic terms and unnecessary punctuation.

    • 2

Address your email with a personal greeting. Using a formalized business greeting that includes the recipient's name is much less likely to be filtered than "Dear Sir or Madam."

    • 3

Keep the body of your email free of any unnecessary HTML or graphics. These not only distract your reader but are a common ploy used to create false clicks to malware.

    • 4

Sign your email without the use of a pregenerated signature. You may still include your signature to relay business contact information, but a simple "Thank you" at the end of your email will help get you past the spammers.

    • 5

If you do include your pregenerated signature, only use one hyperlink, if any. Multiple hyperlinks are common in spam emails and will trigger many common filters.

Tips & Warnings

  • Always ask your customers to add your email address to their address book or list of approved senders. This will bypass almost all spam filters if used.

  • Never send unsolicited bulk email in violation of the CAN-SPAM Act. The resulting fines and penalties for such actions can be significant.
