A radiant cut stone is essentially a stone that combines the geometry of the emerald cut with the classic round cut. This cut is usually square or rectangular but has slightly cropped edges that contribute to its eye-catching sparkle. Radiant cuts are similar to princess cuts and Asscher cuts. This fancy cut is becoming increasingly popular, because it contributes to a diamond's color and shine while concealing flaws and imperfections.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Tweezers
  • Needle nose pliers
  1. Step 1

Select a radiant cut diamond in the carat size of your choice.

  2. Step 2

Measure the width and height of the diamond in millimeters to purchase the correct size of ring setting.

  3. Step 3

Purchase a four-pronged ring setting with the corresponding measurements to your diamond. Four prongs are necessary to properly secure a radiant cut diamond.

  4. Step 4

Pick up the diamond with tweezers, and carefully place it within the ring setting.

  5. Step 5

Close each prong onto the ring using the needle nose pliers. Place the bottom tong of the pliers against the bottom of the ring setting directly below the prong to be closed, and place the other tong on top of the prong to be closed. Gently push the prong onto the diamond. Repeat this process until each prong is closed.

Tips & Warnings
  • You may need to pry away the prongs and start over if the diamond appears crooked in the setting.
  • The diamond may appear to fit snugly in the ring setting when you first position it, but the prongs must be tightened to ensure the ring actually is secured.
