Instructions

    • 1

Remove the window frame and install insulation between the frame and the wall. Use spray insulation to seal cracks, crevices and holes that let the cold air in. Allow to expand and harden following the manufacture's recommendations and trim with a utility knife.

    • 2

Replace the window frames. Check that they are snug against the wall. Clean the window frame and sash with all-purpose cleaner and dry with a soft cloth. Check that storm windows are closed and windows are locked.

    • 3

Wash windows, as once the plastic is in place it will be impossible to wash your windows without removing the plastic.

    • 4

Measure and cut the double-sided tape included in the kit to the dimensions of your window frame. Press in place around the perimeter of the window frame, leaving the paper backing in place.

    • 5

Remove an 8-inch section of the paper backing beginning in the upper left hand corner. Press the plastic in place onto the adhesive. Pull the paper backing free from the tape as you work your way to the right. Smooth away any wrinkles as you work.

    • 6

Repeat from the top left hand corner to the bottom left corner. Secure the right hand side from top to bottom and complete the process by sealing the bottom section.

    • 7

Shrink the material with a hair dryer following the recommendations on the package. Application of heat causes the plastic to shrink, and pull taut creating a smooth airtight surface.
