Things You'll Need:
- Strand(s) of lights
- Extension cord
-
Step 1
Plug the Christmas tree lights into an outlet to make sure they work before you start putting them on the tree. Replace any burned out bulbs. Replacement bulbs can be purchased at many hardware stores around the Christmas season. To replace the bulbs, simply pull out or unscrew the old bulb and push in or screw in the new bulb.
-
Step 2
Wrap the Christmas lights around the tree, starting from the bottom and working your way to the top. Loosely weave the light string alternately over and under the branches. Leave enough of the strand hanging from the bottom of the tree to reach an outlet. Use an extension cord if an outlet is not available near the tree.
-
Step 3
Plug the lights in to see how they look. If you want to adjust the lights, unplug them from the outlet first.
-
Step 4
Put the rest of the decorations on the tree.

on 7/31/2009 Hi mypp, If you don't have an electrical outlet next to your Christmas tree, you can use an extension cord. I do not know of any solar powered Christmas lights, but that would be a cool idea. I would not use candles, because they do pose such a fire risk. Back in the old days when they did use candles, there were a lot of Christmas tree fires. So use an extension cord, or you can even skip the lights and have fun decorating with popcorn strings, candy canes, ribbons and Christmas tree bulbs.
