The beef arm roast is cut from the chuck primal, and is one of the most popular pot roasts. The beef arm roast is also known as arm pot roast, round bone pot roast, chuck bone pot roast, chuck round bone cut and arm chuck roast. A smaller cut of the beef arm roast is known as an arm steak or a Swiss steak. This choice of beef is drawn from the muscle of the cow and is generally tough. Because of this, it is generally better to use moist cooking methods like stewing or braising.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 3 lbs. beef arm roast
  • 1 tbsp. canola oil
  • Large skillet
  • ½ c chopped onion
  • Crockpot
  • 1 medium can tomato sauce
  • ¼ c vinegar
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • ¼ c garlic powder
  • ½ tsp A-1 steak sauce
  • 1 bay leaf
  • Hamburger buns
  1. Step 1

Cut the roast into 1 inch cubes.

  2. Step 2

Place the meat and canola oil into a skillet and place over low heat. Stir the meat until all the sides are browned.

  3. Step 3

Pour out the drippings. Reduce the heat to simmer.

  4. Step 4

Add enough water to cover the meat completely, and add the onion. Cook the meat for 20 minutes. Do not cook the meat quickly or it will become tough.

Cook the mixture on low for three hours.

  7. Step 7

    Serve on hamburger buns.
