Things You'll Need:
- Straight blade haircutting shears Texturizing haircutting shears Fine tooth comb
-
Step 1
Dampen hair so that it is evenly wet. You may want to begin the haircut with damp hair and then finish the haircut on dry, flat-ironed hair (depending on the length you are working with).
-
Step 2
Create the basic shape that you would like by cutting the perimeter of the hair.
-
Step 3
Work with approximately 1-inch sections of hair at a time to begin to cut the spikey style into the hair.
-
Step 4
Comb the section of hair to a 45 degree angle.
-
Step 5
Hold the section of hair between your fingers so that you are focusing only on the ends of the hair. Use your straight blade shears to slice into the section. You can work the blade up from your fingers to the ends or cut into the section. Cutting into the section will create more texture and more defined spikes. You can also perform this same technique with the texturizing hair cutting shears.
-
Step 6
Let down the section and run your fingers throughout the hair. Using the tips of your fingers, shake the side of hair you are working with in order to observe how it lays and moves. You should see defined spikes in the section of hair you just cut.
-
Step 7
Continue to slice into sections of hair until you have worked your way around the entire head. As you are doing this, be sure to work your fingers throughout the hair in order to observe your work.
-
Step 8
Blow dry and style the hair per the client's request. Add necessary products to achieve the look.
-
Step 9
Use the tips of your hair texturizing shears and straight blade shears to detail the look and add more spike to the areas that seem to need it. Use mirrors and walk around the person to observe the final look and continue to cut into the hair where needed.
