How to Build a Sound Proof Room for Music

Whether you pursue music is a career or a hobby, a good music studio is an essential component. Before converting the basement storage closet into your new studio it is essential prepare the room so that outside distractions won't bother you and your music won't bother someone else. In doing so it is necessary to start with a bare room, all the way down to the studs. This article will give you some techniques for creating the ultimate soundproof studio.

  • QUIET BATT® acoustic insulation
  • QuietRock soundproof drywall
  • Latex acoustical ceiling and wall paint

  1. Insulating, Drywalling, Painting

    • 1

      Remove any existing drywall and insulation from the room's walls and ceiling. The studs must be visible.

    • 2

      Install QUIET BATT® acoustic insulation between each wall stud, filling the entire void.

    • 3

      Install QUIET BATT® acoustic insulation between ceiling joist, filling the entire void.

    • 4

      Install QuietRock soundproof drywall on the walls and ceiling. Follow the manufacturer's procedures for mudding and taping the drywall.

    • 5

      Paint the walls and ceiling with latex acoustical ceiling and wall paint.

    • 6

      Adding acoustical studio foam will decrease echo within the room and add another layer of soundproofing.
