How to delete an AIM account or screen name

AIM is AOL's instant messenger program. It has been around a long time and is one of the first widely popular IM programs. Chances are that you have one maybe more accounts with AIM. This tutorial will show you how to delete an AIM account.

1. There isn't a way to completely delete an AOL Instant Message screen name but there are methods to prevent others from finding you. The best chance you will have in deleting your account is to not use it and wait for AIM to delete their inactive accounts.
   
   While you wait you can make sure that no one finds you through a search or any other means. Follow these steps to ensure your privacy.
   
   The first step is Select the My AIM menu, click My Options, and then click Edit Preferences.

2. After the window appears, click the Controls tab, and click Nothing about me.

3. After a long period of inactivity the account will be purged from AIM's records.
