When painting Exterior natural wood siding and or natural wood trim, there are three types of paints that are recommended. These three paints are Exterior Clear Finish, Wood Stain, and Spar Varnish. In this article you will learn the differences of these three paints and hopefully you will come to a decision of which would be best for this job.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

First we will look into Exterior Clear Finish. Exterior Clear Finish helps seal the raw wood and protect it. This is the best way to still show the natural look of the wood and protect it from the harsh conditions of nature including sun, rain, insects, and other disasters that mother nature loves to throw at us.

  2. Step 2

The Second choice is Wood Stain. If you would like to change the look of your trim outside or your natural wood siding, there are many colors available in Wood Stain. This method helps seal and protect the raw wood as well as give the look that you prefer. If you used oak or pine wood then you could change it to look like any type of wood that you would like. The options are endless. This is a great way to match the trim to your home.

  3. Step 3

The last recommended type of paint you may use is Spar Varnish. Spar Varnish helps the wood by protecting it from the sun and the rain as well as any other thing mother nature can dish out. Spar Varnish looks really glossy. You can also use this to put a coat over one of the other paints chosen. Now that you have this information choose what you like and have fun!
