How to Run a Linebacker Sled Drill

Football is a game where players must remain low. The lowest man wins in collusion battles. The sled drill Teaches players to stay low when engaged with an opponent. If player does not remain low at a football level the pad will not move in the sled drill.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Stay low at all times.
  • Tighten up when making contact.
  • Tighten up means flex right before contact when playing football.
  1. Step 1

    Players start three yards off in a two point stance with shoulders parallel to the sled.

  2. Step 2

    Make sure the player has a wide base. On the coaches whistle player attacks the bags by placing the his face mask the numbers of the opponents jersey.

  3. Step 3

    The player must push forward as if he were pushing someone in the chest. As the player pushes the bag on the sled, keeping his hands inside not outside on the shoulders, the player should try to raise his palms to the sky.

  4. Step 4

    After successful completion of violently striking the sled, the player should back pedal three yards, scrape over to the next bag and repeat the steps above in a violent manner.

  5. Step 5

    How do you Scrape?

    In order to scrape properly (going to the right) a player using his right foot takes a lateral step about a foot long.

  6. Step 6

    After stepping over with the right foot replace where the right foot used to be by stepping over with the left.

  7. Step 7

    Vice Versa going to the left.
