Teach Your Kids to Sleep by Themselves

Many kids are so use to sleeping with mommy and daddy, its hard for them to start sleeping by themselves. Parents also get so use to sleeping with their toddler that its also hard for them to allow their child break away.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Just like we let our child go on their first day of school we eventually need to teach our kids to sleep by themselves. If your child has other brothers or sisters close to their age sleeping with them is a a good way to start your child off. As with all things you need preparation to even make this transition a success. First you should discover cartoon heroes your child loves to watch and go out and buy a bed set of their favorite cartoon character. To a child it may not be cool to sleep without mommy and daddy but it may be even cooler to get to sleep with sponge bob square pants.

  2. Step 2

Take your child shopping if you don't have a bed yet pick out a real cool bed like a car, or a princess house. If you can find sheets a long the same theme this will work even better for your child. Let your child pick out a pillow to sleep on also. While you are shopping pick out a good night light that will allow your child the freedom to still see around the room.

  3. Step 3

Before you tuck your child in close the closet doors and play some calming music for your child. Reading your child a story before they go to bed is also a great way to put them to sleep. If you are really good at reading your child may be sound a sleep before you get to the end of the story. For the first couple of days of your child getting use to sleeping alone you might want to keep them up as much as possible during the day. If you can keep your child up during the day going to sleep at night will be a breeze because they will already be tired.
