Things You'll Need:
- Internet
- AOL Account
- Phone
-
Step 1
There are a few ways to cancel your account and I will walk through each of them. The first way is by phone and before you get started you should know that they will try to keep you from canceling your account at all costs.
1st Phone: 1-800-827-6364
2nd Phone: 1-888-265-8008
3rd Phone: 1-877-773-4462
Once you have called you should get to the menu.
Say: "Cancellation." Then you will need to answer to your security question.
This should connect you to a live attendant. They ask why you're canceling the service.
You should repeat: I didn't like it and I am not interested in any deals.
Don't explain anything, or it will just take longer! -
Step 2
The second way will let you avoid talking to an AOL customer service rep.
To cancel your AOL account:
1. Go to http://bill.aol.com.
2. Sign in with a master screen name. Type the answer to your Account Security Question, and then click Continue.
3. In the right panel, in the I want to section, click Cancel my billing.
4. In the right panel, in the Frequently Asked Questions section, click How do I cancel my paid member account or convert it to a free member account?.
5. Follow the onscreen instructions to send the cancellation request -
Step 3
The last method will also let you bypass talking to the AOL call center. This method will take a little longer but you don't have to deal with the headache of talking to an AOL customer service rep.
Send a typed letter by mail or fax to AOL to cancel an AOL account:
Fax:
904-232-4879.
Mail:
America Online
PO BOX 17100
Jacksonville, FL 32245-7100
Include information such as your user name, billing address, phone number, and account number if one is available. The account number is generally found on the monthly billing statement. Don't forget to sign the letter.
