Make a Memory Book for Parents And/or Grandparents

Ever want to show your mom or dad how much you appreciate all they have done? Creating a book of memories of their children and/or grandchildren can be a great gift for Mother's Day/Father's Day, birthdays or any time. It is also a great idea for an aging parent or one suffering the affects of memory loss. This is a great gift idea for parents and grandparents of younger children as well as families that have grown children with families of their own to include in the book.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Photos
  • Anything you might need to scan that is not on your computer
  1. Step 1

Gather all the things you want included in the book that is not on the computer. Things such as birth certificates, hand print pictures, artwork done through the years, photos that are not on your computer, etc. It is also great if you can find quotes or song lyrics to use throughout the book as well. These are another way to be able to convey thoughts and feelings to your parent of how important they are.

  2. Step 2

There are many platforms available for compiling your book. You can use your favorite photo program and print your own pages to create your book or there are many different companies that have software that allows you to create the book and then ships you an actual book. Two common publishers these days are Picaboo and Blurb. There are advantages to both but I have found the Blurb software more computer friendly and also a better value so this has been my preferred application. Smilebox also has some great layouts in their various designs and you can create each page as a jpeg file and either print yourself or send to a local Kinko's or alike for printing. Whichever you choose the steps are the same and it is merely personal preference how you go about having the book printed.

  3. Step 3

Once you have decided on the platform to create your book start adding the content. Begin with the oldest child include a cover page with a baby picture and all the important info of birth date, weight, etc. Include however many pages you want of the child growing up, trying to incorporate as many photos as possible with the parent/grandparent.

  4. Step 4

No matter how much or little you are able to get in the book you are sure to help your parent/grandparent see how important they are and how much of a difference they make on your life.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you are able to get each child to write a short message or quotes about the parent/grandparent and their favorite memories or things that make them think of them you can add those to the last page of each child's section and that is yet another nice touch for the memory book
  • Have a box of tissues handy as this heartfelt gift is prone to cause a few tears of joy from the recipient
