Find online coupons, but keep the scissors handy for clipping paper coupons.

Coupons are among the ways people save money at the grocery store. You know where to find some of them and how to use them. But there are a lot of places to find coupons and get the most bang for your buck. You might find yourself becoming an avid searcher for coupons for grocery items that you already buy or for those you want to try for the first time. Enlist your kids to help out with the great coupon hunt.

Instructions

    • 1

Check the packaging of your favorite foods. Some manufacturers include coupons inside or on their packages. Make sure you don't throw away the packaging without looking for a coupon first. Sometimes they are inside a box, on a removable label, inside a can or inside the bottle top. Dog foods often have small coupons folded up inside the food.

    • 2

Research the manufacturer websites of your favorite groceries. Some manufacturers have a place on their websites where you can enter a printed code found on the packaging of your favorite products. This lets you print out a coupon.

Sometimes manufacturers give you a chance to fill out a simple questionnaire in exchange for a free product or coupon. Sometimes you can also just input your email address and receive their newsletter with coupons.

Do an Internet search for free coupon websites. Several online sites are set up to print out all sorts of grocery coupons. Check with your grocery store personnel to see what the store policy is about accepting these coupons.

    • 4

Check the website of your grocery or drug store for coupons. Look at weekly circulars that arrive in your mailbox. Your preferred stores may send out circulars with sales and coupons.

    • 5

Realize that not all junk mail is junk. There are manufacturer coupons and sometimes free trial-size products that may be in the same bundle of junk mail with the store circulars.

    • 6

Look on the cover and in the back pages of your phone book for grocery coupons.

Tips & Warnings

  • Over time you will become more adept at wading through the coupons you don't need and pulling out the ones you can use.

  • Don't hang onto every coupon that catches your eye. If you buy things you can't use, you'll spend more money rather than less.
