Things You'll Need:
- Master's Degree
-
Step 1
First of all, make sure that the school you are choosing for your doctoral degree is reputable. One way you can do this is by calling your local college and asking if they accept transfer credits from that particular online university. If not, ask why. Also ask contacts in your field which online university they recommend for an online doctoral degree.
-
Step 2
When you go to the admissions part of the online university's website, you will most often find that you are directed to speak with an enrollment counselor. If not, this is a big red flag. An enrollment counselor can make sure that you have the prerequisites for the online doctoral degree that you are seeking and let you know if there is any additional coursework that you need to take in order to qualify.
-
Step 3
The enrollment counselor at the online university should also be able to direct you to some financial aid resources for your online doctoral degree. Doctoral degrees can be expensive, and this is something you'll want to have in place before committing yourself to the program.
-
Step 4
Make sure that you have all of your transcripts from any undergraduate and graduate degrees you have completed. Beware of any school that doesn't ask for a transcript! This is another good reason to speak to an enrollment counselor, as they may see courses on your transcript that may count towards your doctoral degree, saving you time and money.
