Choose a mediator

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

How does one decide if they should hire a divorce mediator. Mediators will sit down with the parties, narrow the issues and try to reach a mutual agreement between the parties. Mediators charge an hourly rate and can be costly, but in the end they are cheaper than hiring a Lawyer. Just keep in mind that they are neutral and can not provide legal advice.

  2. Step 2

For mediation to work both parties should be willing to meet with the mediator and be willing to work on the issues. If the parties cannot do this and do not communicate then mediation will not work. Some people hire mediators to only work on those issues of their divorce that deal with their children and parenting plans. narrowing down the issues and spending less time and money in Court on this issue can be helpful. In the long run mediation can be helpful with issues with the children because if a future problem comes about you can go to the mediator instead of Court.

  3. Step 3

If you have a lot of money issues, debt, or financial assess a lawyer may be your best bet so in the future you do not have any legal or tax issues.
