Step 1
You can file for child support against the other biological parent whether you were married or not. The first thing you will need to do is locate the local Probate and Family Court where you and the child lives. Please note you will have to have lived in that county six months for that Court to have Jurisdication.

Step 2
You will need a copy of the child's birth certificate and marriage licenses if married. If you are only filing for child support speak to the Court staff and ask them how you go about it and what forms you will need to complete. IF you are receiving welfare/ AFDC the states will usually go after the other parent for child support.

Step 3
Once you complete and file the forms you will need to serve the other party a copy of what you filed and the court date. This is called Serving, and it is usually done by a constable or sheriff who provide you with proof that the other party got notice of the court hearing. When you go to Court bring proof of income, pay stub and tax returns and any proof you have for the other party. Also bring proof of what you pay for daycare and medical expenses for the child
