How to Use Luggage Tags
When you travel, every piece of luggage that you take with you -- whether it's carry-on or checked -- should have a tag on it to identify it as yours. Make sure you purchase high-quality luggage tags before your trip, and put the proper information on the tag without revealing too much about yourself.

1
Purchase a durable, high-quality luggage tag that is made of leather and has a sturdy clasp. This will help prevent the tag from being pulled off or falling off. Make sure your information printed on the paper is covered by a clear protective layer so it can be easily viewed, but that the clear layer is also covered by a flap that can be flipped over. This will protect your privacy during your travels so that your information is only viewed when necessary by the proper individuals.

Write your contact information by hand on the card provided in the tag. Include your first name and your last name. Include your cell phone number, the phone number where you will be staying, and your email address. If you don't feel comfortable including your home street address, you don't have to, but including it might expedite a lost bag being shipped back to your home.

Make sure you put all tags on your items before you leave home. Tag everything. Put a tag on your purse, your backpack, suitcase and other carry-ons. Put a business card with your information inside each bag, too.

Tips & Warnings
You can buy more secure luggage tags at the convenience shops located inside airports.
The tags they supply at the airport check-in counters have a very high chance of falling or tearing off, because they are made of only thin paper and elastic, and baggage handlers and machines are hard on your luggage. However, use airport tags as a last resort if you have nothing else.
