My sister in law has gotten so tired of trying to shop for flattering, stylish, clothes that she's developed a look which she calls "Midwestern Tired." The beauty of this look is that it's appropriate for both work and home, she never has to worry about whether or not she's wearing something inappropriate, and everything can be purchased in one shopping trip.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Go to your favorite, inexpensive, basic clothing store, such as Sears, JCPenney, Target or Old Navy.

  2. Step 2

Buy two or three pairs of pants that you can wear both to work and casually. Also buy two or three neutral colored, knee length, A-line skirts in cotton and wool.

  3. Step 3

Buy an assortment of sweater sets (I suppose in fancier cities than Cleveland they're called "twin sets") in colors that go well together. You can switch the sleeveless shirts with the cardigans of contrasting colors to look like you're making more of an effort at "style."

  4. Step 4

Purchase two pairs of loafers and two pairs of pumps-each in black and brown.

  5. Step 5

If you want your look to go from season to season, buy some thick tights to wear under the skirts
    for winter.

Tips & Warnings
  • With this look, you run the risk of one day sitting down in church next to an elderly woman and realizing you're both wearing the same sweater. It's OK. You look "classic," not elderly. Compliment her on her taste.
