Things You'll Need:
- Time
-
Step 1
Talk to your child about getting well running sensible car- Yes the “ewww that looks like a granny car” with 4 doors. They will be tempted to get the “Very fast” convertible or sports car. Sit with them and explain how the insurance will be lower with a sensible car!!
-
Step 2
Call YOUR insurance company. Often they will give great deals to you, the more policies you have with them. Consider having your car insurance, home insurance, all your insurance needs- including your new driver, all at the same company!
After you get the quote from your insurance company, call several others- compare rates and decide. -
Step 3
Choose a “High Deductible” for your teen- This simply means if they were to have an accident, more would come out of your pocket and the insurance company would pay less. And in turn your monthly payments are affordable.
-
Step 4
Help your child be a safe driver, aside from them taking the drivers ed course, Have rules of your own from them. Perhaps start by just letting them drive short times and distances at first, during the day. Gradually expand the time you allow them to drive- Have strict rules about how many people they can have in the car with them their first year driving. Perhaps one other person in the car besides themselves for the first few months. Their first year, KNOW where they are going and do not allow “Joy Riding”. Being a responsible parent lessens the chances of an accident occurring.
You now have the tools to find insurance for your teen at affordable rates. Good luck and safe driving!

on 8/15/2009 Good advice to help parents get affordable car insurance for our teen. If it's more affordable, it means the insurance company already did the math and it's safer too!
