Dark clothing helps the vampire shine.

There's no denying it: Vampires are sexy. Of course, the alluring vampire from modern fiction is drastically different from the dark creature in Bram Stoker's "Dracula," but that doesn't kill the appeal. If you can't actually be a vampire, you can at least look like one. Does this Spark an idea?

Find Victorian era-type clothing. Check out the thrift shop, where you probably can find vintage clothes for practically nothing. Try silk blouses, velvet dresses, all manner of accessories -- just keep it dark. Dresses should be modest, with high necklines and long hems. Ruffles and antique lace, with old-fashioned items like broaches and religious jewelry, can really give you that "out of time" appearance. Also check the closets in your grandparents' house for shawls, capes and hats. For shoes, you can go Gothic, with lace-up boots, or leather, which is something else you can find at a thrift shop. Pretty much any shoes will do if they're dark and polished.

Stay out of the sun. Wear lots of sunblock but absolutely no bronzer. To keep your complexion looking fair, consider a neutral or light foundation, and pressed face powder. Contrast light with dark. Opt for a deep shade of lip color to accentuate the deathly pallor.

Play up your eyes. You can use a smoky eye shadow, heavy mascara and eyeliner to make the most of your eyes. Depending on the look you are going for, an eyeshadow that is slightly darker than your natural skin color, well-blended across the eye, can give you the effect of sleepless nights.

Color your hair dark to contrast with your pale skin, although ultra light is another option that can contrast nicely with dark clothes. Deep red is catchy. For the Victorian look, consider wearing your hair long or pinned up in an elaborate bun or braid. For man, a simple slicked-back look can work, but might seem old-fashioned or preppy. You can let it hang in your eyes for more mystery.

Keep the mystery. Be aloof, a bit dark and strangely confident. The attitude really makes the look.
