Step 1
If you have property you are probably paying for that space in mortgages and/or taxes anyway, so you might just as well get the most out of you space by turning it into a restful retreat you can vacation in every time you are home. The first step in turning your property into the ideal place to have a garden staycation is to figure out what will make your landscape really inviting to you.
-
Step 2
Make a list of all the things you’d find restful and fun in a vacation. Then see how many can translate into a small version that would fit into your back yard.
-
Step 3
Narrow down your list to the first five features that are realistic for you to add to your landscape. For example, you might want a clear space for sitting, a cozy hammock, a fountain, some roses, and an herb garden.
-
Step 4
You can take some time to make these into a do-it-yourself project. Or you can hire some help getting the work done. Or you can also make the fixing up of your garden into a fun project for the whole family. Sometimes doing a project together can turn into a vacation – or staycation – of its own.
-
Step 5
Once you have added those tempting features that will entice you out to your garden to relax, make sure you schedule in time to use that space for a staycation! Create a place for the kids to play, a place you can putter at growing your favorite flowers, an area for sports or hobbies or simply a quiet retreat to read a book or meditate.
-
Step 6
You can turn your yard into a place to get away from all the other things in your life and have a vacation each time you exit your back door. With a little effort and careful planning you can have a garden staycation ready for you or any members of your family whenever you want it, for however long you want to use it!
