When your home or a home you are renting is in foreclosure, it is almost inevitable that you will have to move. Learn what you can do and what might happen after a foreclosure.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Leave the home as soon as you can after a foreclosure is started and you know that you can't pay the mortgage or fight the foreclosure. Once the foreclosure proceedings start, you can stay in the home and wait, but you might have more legal problems.

  2. Step 2

Wait for an eviction notice from the mortgage holder or the new buyer.

  3. Step 3

Wait until after the sale of the house or an eviction notice and have a sheriff remove you and your belongings from the property. This should be a last resort and avoided if at all possible.

  4. Step 4

Stay in the home to see if the mortgage company will pay for some of the moving costs if you are a renter. Some companies will offer some form of financial help to get you out in a timely manner.
