How to Use Megaphones
A megaphone, also known as a bullhorn or speaking trumpet, allows a person to project their voice over a large crowd. The sound of their words is amplified as if they were talking into a microphone. The megaphone does not have to be plugged in and is more portable than most microphones. Megaphones are commonly used at protests and at football games by cheerleaders. Learn how to use the different types of megaphones to get the best sound quality from each.
Instructions

1
Place the small opening of the megaphone near your mouth. If the megaphone has a button or trigger on the handle, pull the trigger or push the button and hold it.
-
2
Speak into the small opening. Adjust the volume knob, if included, until the sound of your voice is the desired volume.
-
-
3
Release the button when you're done speaking. A megaphone that is not electronic has no buttons and you simply shout or talk into the small opening.
-
4
Aim the large opening of the megaphone in the direction of the people you are speaking to. Your voice will carry better when facing the crowd.
-
5
Do not move the megaphone around while speaking or the words will sound faint. Speak clearly.
-
6
Use a megaphone at pep rallies or large events to be heard over the crowd. Police often use a megaphone to communicate with a person inside a building or far away.
-
7
Use a small, plastic megaphone at sporting events to root for your home team.
