Area Rugs
-
1
Install a non-skid pad under the area rug if possible. This pad should be cut to fit about 1 to 2 inches smaller than the area rug. Non-skid pads can sometimes help prevent wrinkles that form from the rug sliding along the floor.
-
2
Stretch out the area rug to remove the creases and place heavy objects such as weights or heavy books along the wrinkles as well as at every corner. Leave all the weight on the area rugs for a few days to remove the wrinkles.

3
Roll the area rug the opposite way as tightly as possible with the design facing inside. Keep the rug rolled for a few days to remove the wrinkles. Some rugs just have a tendency to wrinkle in the same place so rolling the rug repeatedly should help remove the wrinkles.
-
4
Install double-sided tape under the corners of the area rug working on the diagonal to stretch the rug as tight as possible and prevent it from moving.
Wall-to-Wall Carpeting
-
5
Contact a reputable carpet company for help re-stretching wrinkled wall-to-wall carpeting. When wrinkles appears, this means carpet was not installed properly, or the carpet itself may be old. Repairing stretched carpeting requires special tools and experience to correct this problem.
-
6
Help the carpet repair company by removing furniture and baseboards to allow access to tack strips and corners. The carpet company will use a tool called a kicker to pull the carpet taut into the corners, cut excess carpeting and tack it tightly to the tack strips.
-
7
Obtain a complete warranty for the work in writing to ensure that any loosening will be repaired within the specified time frame. Any future new carpet installations should include a warranty to allow for wrinkling which can be caused by poor installation.
