Small bedrooms do not top the wish list of many, if any, people. Most dream of large bedrooms with enough space for everything they could possibly need or want. That is just a fantasy, a rarity in the real world. However, it is not a dream to make good use of the space you do have in your bedroom. One way of doing this is to choose space saving bedroom furniture.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Use a daybed to save space in your small bedroom. Use it as additional seating as well. Keep the bedding simple, avoiding bulky comforters and fluffy dust ruffles. Store throw pillows and other items underneath the bed to save even more space.

  2. Step 2

Place tall, narrow chests catty-corner in the corner of your small bedroom. Place a tall floor lamp behind it so you aren’t wasting any space. Add decorative baskets and boxes on top of your chest to save drawer space.

  3. Step 3

Use a short, long bureau against the longest wall in your small bedroom. A short bureau will help you save wall space where can add shelves and shadow boxes for storing and displaying your collections. Try placing your short bureau in front of your bedroom window so taller furniture will not block the natural light.

  4. Step 4

Create additional storage and seating by using hollow ottomans and benches. These can also serve as informal footboards for a traditional beds. Keep out of season clothing as well as other rarely used items in the ottomans and benches.

  5. Step 5

Choose a hutch-like desk with plenty of drawers and cabinet space. Use the lower drawers and cabinets for non-work items such as bedding and extra towels. Use the upper drawers and cabinets for paper, pens, books and other work-related items.

  6. Step 6

Use narrow bookshelves for additional stores. Place books, small lamps as well as other accessories such as knick knacks and photos. Add baskets, hat boxes and other decorative storage to hold small items.
