Shower Curtain

It almost seems as though mildew and mold on shower curtains appear over night. It may almost seem like an impossible task to remove shower curtain mold. Your first instinct may be to throw it out and buy a new one. If your shower curtain matches your other bathroom accessories (the soap dispenser, toothbrush holder, towels, rugs, etc,.)it may be difficult to find the same exact shower curtain or expensive to buy a new bathroom set. Before throwing out your shower curtain, try these three methods below to remove shower curtain mold.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

If you have just purchased a new shower curtain you can help prevent shower curtain mold and mildew by soaking it in salt water and then hanging it up to dry. If you have a dark plastic or cloth shower curtain, you may not want to soak the whole curtain in salt water as it will leave a residue after it dries. You can take a spray bottle with salt water and spray the bottom and the sides (the places mildew and mold appear most often)

  2. Step 2

Mold loves to form in damp crevices. After your shower, do not leave it open. Close the curtain completely. This will help prevent any mold from forming in any folds of the curtain.

  3. Step 3

If you are looking to get rid of shower curtain mold, you can get your shower curtain clean by soaking it in a tub of warm water and baking soda. It is best if kept soaking for 45 minutes to an hour. After it is done soaking, rinse with cool water and put it back on your shower rod to dry.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do NOT dry a plastic shower curtain in the dryer. It could start a fire and it will ruin the shower curtain.

on 10/7/2009 Thank you for step 3! My father in law lives with us and hates to see the shower curtain closed... He will run right into the bathroom after one of us takes a shower and open the thing back up... As a result I am buying a new one every couple of months and since I buy the mold resistant ones they are not cheap! This will save me a bundle!
