Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Lean turkey or chicken or a tofu/soya substitute
  • Organic lettuce
  • Your choice of organic vegetables
  • Low-fat mozzarella cheese
  • Low-calorie dressing (e.g. Italian or vinaigrette)
  1. Step 1

Go to your nearest organic or whole foods grocery store or farmers market and head to the organic produce section. There you will be picking up your choice of a variety of organic vegetables to use as ingredients in your salad. Ask for any assistance if you want to make sure that the vegetables are organic.

  2. Step 2

Find the section in the produce aisle where the mozzarella cheese is kept, and choose the brand that holds the lowest in fat. The fresh cheeses should be in the same section where you found the vegetables you’ve chosen for your salad. Use a variety of low fat cheeses in your salad as well.

  3. Step 3

The last item you will need to pick up from the grocery store is your choice of dressing. Keep in mind that most dressings are very high in fat, so if you want a truly healthy salad it narrows down your options. Dressings such as Italian or different types of vinaigrette normally have the lowest fat content, so that is where you want to concentrate.

  4. Step 4

Now that you’ve picked up all the ingredients you’ll need to make your healthy salad, you’re ready to start preparing the ingredients. First rinse off all the vegetables in order to make sure they’re perfectly clean and safe to eat. After cleaning your vegetables you’re ready to start making the salad.

  5. Step 5

Chop the lettuce up into pieces that suit your preference. Try and exclude all the pieces that look like they might be rotten such as darkish brown pieces you might discover after cutting the lettuce apart. Cut the vegetables up and add them to the shredded lettuce pieces. Add the turkey, chicken or tofu substitute and the mozzarella cheese.

  6. Step 6

Add the low-cal dressing to the salad or on the side. To keep it healthy stick to around ¼ of a cup. After adding the dressing to your salad or on the side, shake the salad up in order to mix all the ingredients around for a better taste. Enjoy!

Tips & Warnings
  • To make salad even healthier, keep in mind that by putting your dressing on the side you can regulate your dressing intake.
  • Lemon juice can be used in place of dressing for a fresh and light taste.
  • Make sure to rinse your vegetables off, which lowers the risk of pesticides and salmonella.
