If you are searching for a different dessert to serve guests or family, something other than cookies or cakes, why not surprise everyone with a fun'n'fruity, banana-split dessert after dinner tonight? Or, host a dessert party, serving up these banana splits with a variety of toppings from which your guests can choose. Banana splits also make a great, creative way to fill party time for kids' parties. With a variety of toppings, you can create any number of fun effects for your guests. Letting them serve toppings such as pineapple, caramel, butterscotch instead of the traditional hot fudge could bring a new, revolutionary taste to the standard banana split I've put together here.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 bananas per 4 people
  • 8 scoops of ice cream, 4, vanilla, 4 chocolate
  • 1/2 Cup hot fudge
  • 1/4 Cup chopped nuts of your choice
  • 1/3 Cup heavy whipping cream (whipped)
  • maraschino cherries
  1. Step 1
    slice lengthwise
    slice lengthwise

Slice your bananas lengthwise and place in your bowls. If you only have small bowls, an alternate way of serving the bananas is to slice them into disks. Using a standard, egg slicer will give you uniformly shaped, circular pieces for which to divide among your guests' dishes. Any dish will suffice, or have your guests select their preferred bowl.

  2. Step 2
remove cap before microwaving hot fudge

Top the bananas in the dishes with one scoop each of both the vanilla and chocolate ice creams. Add 1 Tablespoon of hot fudge on top of each scoop of ice cream. If you are offering other toppings, such as caramel, butterscotch or pineapple (strawberry, marshmallow, etc. are more options available for purchase) be certain to have them all out with spoons in each for your guests to help themselves.

  3. Step 3

Next, sprinkle nuts (walnuts are my, personal favorite); top with the whipped cream and finish with the cherry (or cherries) on top. Having a variety not only makes it more fun for your guests, but it adds to intensifying the flavor of the banana splits.

Tips & Warnings
  • Low-fat or ice milk can be substituted for regular ice cream
  • Alternate versions of whipped cream can be substituted
  • Walnuts, pecans, or peanuts are some of the nuts you can sprinkle on top
  • Frequent consumption of banana splits could cause weight gain.
