Develop a family plan for immediate safety during a storm. Establish a, contact person or meeting locations if separated. Have first aide and survival supplies in your home or car for quick retrieval. Listen to local weather forecasts and latest information. Watch the weather for warning signs of a tornado, such as Dark, often greenish sky, hail, dark rotating clouds, load roar like that of a freight train. -
Step 2

If you are under a tornado WARNING, seek shelter immediately. If you are in a mobile home, trailer or automobile, leave immediately. Take shelter in the lowest possible are, such as a ditch or lie down flat and cover your head and neck. Do not take shelter under an overpass. Be aware of flying debris and flooding.
If you are in a structure, such as a house or school, do not open windows. Go to the basement or lowest floor or center away from windows and corners. Take shelter under a table if possible. Get down a low as possible and protect your neck and head. -
Step 3
AfterAfter
Your first concern after a disaster is the health and safety of your family. Be aware of safety issues, such as downed power lines, gas leaks, safety of damaged and debris. Assist the injured. Contact local authorities.
