How to Safely Get Rid of Cockroaches
Despite continuing attempts to get rid of cockroaches, the nasty little creatures have persisted for millions of years. Not only are cockroaches ugly, but they carry and spread bacteria such as salmonella and can spur allergic reactions and asthma. You can safely get rid of cockroaches by making your dwelling less hospitable to them. Does this Spark an idea?

Sweep and vacuum daily to cut off their food supply and to dispose of eggs. A few crumbs in the bottom of a cabinet or under the stove can feed roaches for weeks.

Apply boric acid from its plastic container by squeezing the sides. Place a thin layer barely visible to the naked eye, recommends the University of Kentucky. Puff a small quantity into cracks or crevices or behind the refrigerator, dishwasher and stove.

Remove outlet covers and puff boric acid in the walls. Remove kickplates to get boric acid in voids under cabinets.

Allow at least a week for the boric acid, which is slow acting, to take effect.

Tips & Warnings
Avoid applying boric acid to countertops or other areas used to prepare food, or in areas near houseplants.
