It can be very frustrating to try to hang something on a wall and then realize it needs a molly in order to hold. You may need to hunt around for a drill (and a charged battery to operate it) and the correct drill bit size. Instead of going through all that trouble, try this little trick to quickly insert a molly into your drywall and have your item hung in no time.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Hammer
  • Molly
  1. Step 1

Mark the spot on the wall where you would like the molly to be placed. It doesn't matter what you use to mark the wall because the molly will be going right through the middle of the mark.

  2. Step 2

Using a Phillips screwdriver slightly smaller than the molly, place the tip directly on the spot you marked in step 1.

  3. Step 3

Gently hammer the screwdriver tip into the wall until it has gone all the way through. Make sure to hammer straight into the wall and not at an angle.

  4. Step 4

Pull the screwdriver straight out of the wall being careful not to enlarge the hole in any direction. If you have difficulty pulling the screwdriver out, give it a very slight wiggle or twist it.

  5. Step 5

Push the tip of the molly into the hole and gently hammer until the molly is flush with the wall. Once it is in, you can insert the screw as you normally would.

Tips & Warnings
  • If the molly does not easily insert, repeat the steps using a slightly larger screwdriver.
  • When hammering the molly into the wall, don't hammer too hard or you may hammer it through the wall and you will be left with a large gaping hole.
