Make Pesto Sauce, With or Without Pine Nuts

I love pesto sauce, but rarely do I have a lot of pine nuts around to make it with. Lately, I have resorted to using much more common ingredients, like walnuts or almonds, and guess what folks...it tastes better than anything you can find in a store.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • extra virgin olive oil
  • fresh nuts in the shell of your choosing
  • Parmesan cheese
  • fresh basil leaves
  • salt
  1. Step 1

The best way to make this is to use a food processor, but in a pinch, spending a lot of time chopping things up will do just as well.

  2. Step 2

Add 3/4 cup of fresh basil leaves, one quarter cup of olive oil, 3 tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese, and one half cup of freshly shelled nuts to your food processor. You can also add salt and pepper to taste. Process until a smooth paste is formed. (You may need to stop and scrape down the sides a few times to get to this point.)

  3. Step 3

That's it folks. Now you can use this pesto sauce to make incredible pasta dishes, as well as pesto pizza, the recipe for which you can find in one of my other articles. Enjoy.
