If you've spent lots of time making your perfect neighborhood in the Sims 2, only to have that neighborhood overrun by townies, there are ways to get rid of those annoying non-playable characters. Though it requires a little time and patience, you're just a few simple steps away from having townie-free neighborhoods in Sims 2.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • The Sims 2
  1. Step 1

Start off in a brand new neighborhood. Do not create any Sims characters in this neighborhood. Do not make a downtown or university as this will cause the game to spawn non-playable characters.

  2. Step 2

Make sure you are using the neighborhood view in the game. Press the "Ctrl," "Shift" and "C" buttons to open the cheat console. When the cheat console opens, enter "deleteallcharacters." You will be asked whether you are sure you want to do this. Select "Yes." When the neighborhood reloads, it will be empty.

  3. Step 3

Another way to get rid of the townies in Sims 2 requires that you save and exit the game. Then find this file on your computer: (C:\My Documents\EA Games|The Sims2\Neighborhoods\<insert your neighborhood folder here>\Character Files).

  4. Step 4

Locate and open the neighborhood folder in-game so that you can keep an eye on the folder while deleting the files.

  5. Step 5

Make sure you've chosen the correct neighborhood file on your computer. There should be 87 character files in the neighborhood folder. Delete them. When you reload the game, the townies will be gone.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you want to get rid of the townies in Pleasantview, Strangetown and Veronaville you will have to kill each townie individually.
  • The "deleteallcharacters" cheat cannot be used in the neighborhoods of Pleasantview, Strangetown or Veronaville. Using the "deleteallcharacters" cheat in any of those neighborhoods can result in your game data being corrupted.
