Before real music ringtones emerged in the mid-2000s, monophonic and polyphonic MIDI ringtones were the rage in personalizing your cell phone. These MIDI (Musical Instrumental Digital Interface) tones are still available and often can be downloaded for free. Adding these ringtones to your phone is as simple as saving them to your computer and using a USB cable to transfer them.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Navigate on your computer to a free MIDI ringtone downloading site, like Mobile9.com.

  2. Step 2

Enter a search term into the search bar on the homepage and click Go.

  3. Step 3

Click the large green Download bar on the next page for the MIDI song.

  4. Step 4

Click Browse to find a folder to save your song to and click Save.

  5. Step 5

Wait for the download to complete and connect your cell phone to your computer using a USB cable.

  6. Step 6

Drag and drop your MIDI tone from your saved folder to the icon for your USB cable, then wait for the song to upload to your phone.
